Michela Sunquest's interview about Zimbabwe to Emanuela Scarponi

SCARPONI. Good morning, Michela. What is the situation in Zimbabwe? Is it possible to visit it?
(Buongiorno, Michela. Qual è l’attuale situazione dello Zimbabwe? E’ possibile visitarlo?)
Michelina Gabriè Sunquest, Honorary Consul of Tourism of Zimbabwe in Italy. Good morning, my name is Michelina Gabrié Sanquest. Recently, there have been reports in the news regarding the political transformation of Zimbabwe. President Mugabe was peacefully dismissed. Contrarly to the reports in the European and American media, there was no coup d'etat. The country now has a new president who also served as vice president previously. The situation is normal and there were no problems of a political nature. No one died and no one got injured. The country is proud to share it's rich history and heritage with Italy.
There are many archaeological sites in Zimbabwe. We have Victoria Falls which are counted among the Unesco world heritage sites for a good reason and are known the world over. In Masvingo we have the Great Zimbabwe archaeological site where you will also find rock paintings.
Furthermore, we have many parks which are second to none and rival the very best in Kenya,Tanzania and South Africa.I would go so far as to say that the Great Zimbabwe is a great medieval palace.The biggest park in Zimbabwe is the Hwange National Park which is adjacent to the Victoria Falls.In this park you will find the Big Five,s something which is rare indeed. We also have Masvingo where you will find the Great Zimbabwe,the origin of the word Zimbabwe.We have the famous Victoria Falls.Excuse me for repeating this but I feel it is important to focus on these attractions.We have the famous Kariba Dam which straddles the border with Zambia.This dam was constructed by the famous Italian company Salini Empregilo. Among it's many works Salini is currently involved in a Dam construction project in Ethiopia.The activities in Victoria Falls.The Victoria Falls are not the only tourist attraction in the area. They have made a name for themselves as a centre of adventure.The nature and animals are uncontaminated.If you stop to gaze at the many Baobabs,you will be amazed to see a pride of lions fight and tug their prey in the morning.You may also find yourself still with fear as you face the big herds of elephants and buffalos that mingle in total freedom.The mystic atmosphere of the western plateaus.There is nothing more beautiful than waking up early in the morning to watch the sun slowly rise above the mountain crests,marking the dawn of a new day.The mythical Kariba Dam and the 111 km long mighty Zambezi where one can enjoy activities such as ferry rides while watching birds,animals and the sunset.I therefore urge you not to miss this opportunity to visit Zimbabwe.This a unique chance to do so.Thank you.

Il presidente Mugabe è stato pacificamente licenziato. Contrariamente a quanto riferito dai media europei e americani, non c'è stato alcun colpo di stato. Il paese ora ha un nuovo presidente che in precedenza era anche vicepresidente. .La situazione è normale e non ci sono stati problemi di natura politica. Nessuno è morto e nessuno è rimasto ferito. Il paese è orgoglioso di condividere la sua ricca storia e il suo patrimonio con l'Italia. Ci sono molti siti archeologici in Zimbabwe. Abbiamo le Cascate Vittoria che sono annoverate tra i siti del patrimonio mondiale dell'Unesco per una buona ragione e sono conosciute in tutto il mondo. A Masvingo abbiamo il sito archeologico del Grande Zimbabwe dove troverai anche pitture rupestri.
Inoltre, abbiamo molti parchi che non sono secondi a nessuno e rivaleggiano con i migliori in Kenya, Tanzania e Sud Africa. Direi che il Grande Zimbabwe è un grande palazzo medievale. Il parco più grande dello Zimbabwe è l'Hwange Parco Nazionale che è adiacente alle Cascate Vittoria. In questo parco troverai i Big Five, qualcosa di davvero raro. Abbiamo anche Masvingo dove troverai il Grande Zimbabwe, l'origine della parola Zimbabwe. Abbiamo le famose Cascate Vittoria. Scusa se lo ripeto, ma ritengo sia importante concentrarsi su queste attrazioni. Abbiamo la famosa diga di Kariba che a cavallo del confine con lo Zambia.Questa diga è stata costruita dalla famosa azienda italiana Salini Empregilo. Tra i tanti lavori Salini è attualmente impegnato in un progetto di costruzione di una diga in Etiopia. Le attività alle Cascate Vittoria. Le Cascate Vittoria non sono l'unica attrazione turistica della zona. Si sono fatti un nome come centro di avventura. La natura e gli animali sono incontaminati. Se ti fermi a guardare i tanti Baobab, rimarrai stupito di vedere un branco di leoni combattere e strattonare la loro preda al mattino. potresti anche ritrovarti ancora con la paura mentre affronti le grandi mandrie di elefanti e bufali che si mescolano in totale libertà. L'atmosfera mistica degli altopiani occidentali. Non c'è niente di più bello che svegliarsi presto la mattina per vedere il sole sorgere lentamente sopra le creste delle montagne, che segnano l'alba di un nuovo giorno. La mitica diga di Kariba e il possente Zambesi lungo 111 km dove si possono praticare attività come le gite in traghetto mentre si osservano uccelli, animali e il tramonto. Vi esorto quindi a non perdere questa opportunità per visitare lo Zimbabwe. Questa è un'occasione unica per farlo. Grazie).

Well, foreign investors can go and freely invest in any sector they want without fear.I am personally launching a tour operator business in Victoria Falls.I will naturally have to partner with a local business person as is prescribed by the law.The equity is split 52% to 48% between the foreign and local partners respectively.
(Bene, gli investitori stranieri possono andare e investire liberamente in qualsiasi settore che vogliono senza paura. Sto lanciando personalmente un'attività di tour operator a Victoria Falls. Dovrò naturalmente collaborare con un imprenditore locale come prescritto dalla legge. Il capitale è ripartire dal 52% al 48% rispettivamente tra i partner stranieri e locali).

I'm of the opinion that, by the way this is shared by many, all this is just a big fabrication on the part of the American and European media.There was no coup d'etat .It was just a transition from President Mugabe, who by the way was 93, to a new one, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa born in 1942, is a Zimbabwean politician who has served as President of Zimbabwe since 24 November 2017. A member of ZANU–PF and a longtime ally of former President Robert Mugabe,and was Mugabe's Vice President until November 2017, when he was dismissed before coming to power. He secured his first full term as president in the disputed 2018 general election.
(Sono dell'opinione che, dal modo in cui questo è condiviso da molti, tutto questo è solo una grande invenzione da parte dei media americani ed europei. Non c'è stato nessun colpo di stato. È stata solo una transizione dal presidente Mugabe, che tra l'altro aveva 93 anni ,a uno nuovo. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, nato nel 1942, è un politico dello Zimbabwe, e presidente dello Zimbabwe dal 24 novembre 2017. Membro dello ZANU–PF e alleato di lunga data dell'ex presidente Robert Mugabe, è stato vicepresidente di Mugabe fino a novembre 2017, quando fu destituito prima di salire al potere. Si è assicurato il suo primo mandato completo come presidente nelle contestate elezioni generali del 2018).

Michelina Gabriè Sunquest, Honorary Consul of Tourism of Zimbabwe in Italy: He shares certain views with the former president but he is more flexible when it comes to matters of the economy.
(Condivide alcuni punti di vista con il precedente presidente, ma è più flessibile in materia economica).
SCARPONI. OK, he is more flexible and younger as well. Is he of the same ethnicity as well?
(Ho capito. È più flessibile e più giovane. E della stessa etnia?)
Michelina Gabriè Sunquest, Honorary Consul of Tourism of Zimbabwe in Italy. Yes he is Shona. In Zimbabwe there are four ethnicities.The Shona are from the Capital.The Ndebele are from Bulawayo.You also have the Zulu and the Tonga.The Tonga are from the area which straddles the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
(Si. E uno shona. Ci sono 4 etnie nel Paese. Gli Shonavivono nella Capitale. Poi ci sono gli Ndebele, a Bulawayo; gli Zulu, ed i Tonga, che vivono nell’area al confine tra Zimbabwe e Zambia.

SCARPONI. Is the Great Zimbabwe opened to tourists?

It is in Masvingo which has some very beautiful lodges and it feels like the real Africa.I do not mean to take anything away from the other countries in Africa but I am in love with Zimbabwe.
(Si. Si trova a Masvingo, dove si puo stare in bellissimi lodge che ti fanno sentire nella vera Africa. Non voglio togliere niente agli altri Paesi, ma io amo lo Zimbabwe).
